February 2026
President's Report
2026 Board of Directors pictured above (Shayne, Deanna, Jenny, Sheryl, Brooke, Lauren, Jen and Brandi. Not pictured: Nia, Terrie, Terry, Bruce).
Happy February! I hope everyone has been staying safe and warm over the past few weeks. As winter continues, I find myself occasionally visualizing tropical beaches to help make it through these colder days.
2026 is officially full steam ahead for WCASHRM. Your board had a very productive month preparing for a successful year. We met to review chapter business, approve our annual budget, and strategize about the goals and initiatives we plan to accomplish. As part of our ongoing commitment to operate as an effective and efficient organization for you, our members, we regularly review our bylaws and governing policies. Our most recent bylaw revisions are posted on our website, www.wcashrm.org, under the “About Us” tab. These revisions are currently pending SHRM approval; however, they serve as the guidelines under which we are currently operating. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We also held our first membership meeting of 2026 on January 27th. A sincere thank you to Wayne Young of Friday, Eldredge & Clark for an outstanding Legal Update. Wayne provided valuable insight into the current legal climate impacting employment law, along with helpful reminders of employment-related issues we may all want to review this year. If you have not revisited your employee handbook recently, now may be an excellent time to do so.
If you enjoyed our Legal Update with Wayne, or if you’re passionate about staying ahead of employment law and legislative developments, I invite you to join us at ELLA 2026. The Annual Arkansans Employment Law & Legislative Affairs (ELLA) Conference is the premier HR legal conference in the state, and this year promises to be better than ever. The conference will be held April 30–May 1, 2026, at the DoubleTree Hotel and Robinson Center in Little Rock. Early-bird registration rates end February 15, and this highly anticipated event is expected to sell out, so don’t wait to secure your spot!
Finally, we are actively seeking a Certification Director to champion and support our SHRM certification efforts. This role requires current SHRM membership and certification. If you are interested in this opportunity or would like additional information, please contact me at [email protected].
Please mark your calendars for the following Programs/Events of interest:
March 9-10, 2026 – The AI+HI Project - San Francisco, CA
April 19-22, 2026 – SHRM Talent Conference - Dallas, TX
April 30-May 1, 2026 - ELLA Conference - Little Rock, AR

August 27, 2026 – WCASHRM 21st Annual Manager Seminar – Hot Springs, AR

Sincerely,

Diversity
Diversity Culture of BELONGING in the workplace
In 2026, many large companies are shifting their focus from traditional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives toward a more comprehensive, "belonging"-centered approach. This evolution is driven by the need to create a workplace culture where employees feel seen, heard, respected, and valued, often dubbed "DEIB" (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging).
While some companies are reducing their DEI programs, others are doubling down or rebranding them to focus on belonging as a key driver of employee engagement, productivity, and retention.
Belonging in the workplace is the feeling of being accepted, valued, and psychologically safe, allowing employees to bring their authentic selves, unique perspectives, and full energy to work, fostering deep connections, commitment, and higher performance, unlike mere inclusion which is about being present. It's a culture where individuals feel respected, heard, and integral to achieving shared goals, leading to greater innovation and retention.
Key aspects of workplace belonging:
- Authenticity: Feeling comfortable being your true self without fear of judgment or penalty.
- Psychological Safety: A secure environment where employees can speak up, ask questions, and share ideas without fear of negative consequences.
- Connection: Having meaningful relationships with colleagues and feeling supported by the team and organization.
- Value & Recognition: Feeling that your unique contributions are seen, respected, and matter to the organization's success.
- Inclusion (Beyond Diversity): While diversity is representation and inclusion is invitation, belonging is the deeper feeling of being wanted and integral to the group, making people want to stay.
Why it matters:
- Performance: Higher engagement, productivity, and motivation.
- Retention: Lower turnover and increased loyalty.
- Innovation: Encourages diverse ideas and perspectives, leading to better problem-solving.
- Well-being: Reduces stress and improves overall job satisfaction.

However, you can add several domains and IP addresses to your local Allow List ensure safe delivery. Depending on your e-mail service, you may be able to do this yourself, or you may need the assistance of your IT administrator. We recommend including the following:
