New I-9 Information with Dan Herrington

ICE is not only going after undocumented workers, but is stepping up audits of employers for compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.  Are you ready for ICE to review your I9 forms? Audit your I9 forms before ICE comes knocking to avoid new, larger monetary penalties.  Learn what the law requires when filling out what appears to be a simple form.  Understand the most common mistakes (from personal experience auditing I9’s, the speaker has found at least 52 ways to mess up an I9). Learn the difference between a technical and substantive violation and how to correct them without making things worse.

Dan Herrington is a partner in the Labor and Employment Litigation Section of Friday, Eldredge and Clark. His practice is focused on representing employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including ADA, FMLA, Wage and Hour, Title VII, OSHA, and NLRA. His practice includes not only representation of employers before courts, arbitrators, and administrative bodies, but also working closely with clients to ensure compliance with the myriad of employment laws. He has successfully argued before the Arkansas Supreme Court as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

The School of Business at Henderson State provides AACSB accredited bachelor and master level degree programs in business and accounting.  We deliver small classes and opportunities for students to interact with world-class faculty.  In addition, we provide numerous opportunities to gain practice and apply what they learn in the classroom through experiences such as internships, mentors, Business Plans competitions, and participating in the Investment Challenge. Our motto isBusiness Beyond the Classroom to emphasize both real world involvement and rigorous classroom knowledge.

This month we are holding a School Supply Drive to benefit the United Way of the Ouachitas for their annual Stuff the Bus event.

What is Stuff the Bus? Stuff the Bus eases the financial burden on families with school-aged children. Giving a student the required supplies promotes learning, encourages self-esteem, and helps kids stay in school. It’s more than just supplies. It’s the first step to prepare students for a fulfilling, successful future. School supplies will be distributed throughout the county for each participating school district by the school’s counselors in partnership with the United Way of the Ouachitas.

“Our goal is to send children who are living in poverty to school well-equipped for starting a new school year, giving them a leg up on learning, one step on the ladder to educational success,” according to United Way Executive Director, Jane Browning.

“Our students are so blessed to have a caring community that pulls together to support them. Thank you to all who contribute to ‘Stuff the Bus.’ Your donations make a difference!” says Fountain Lake High School Guidance Counselor, Carmen Keys.

You Can Set Children Up For Success. Join Stuff the Bus and help our kids start school equipped with the supplies they need to be ready to learn. It’s as simple as picking up an extra package of notebook paper, pencils, or other school supplies.

If you would like to make a cash donation, visit their website at They offer a Pay Pal or Pay by Check method.
